On the way home from visiting my farm I stopped in a cheap booze and smoke shop and they had Carter Hall for $3.39 a pouch. I bought both pouches they had out on the shelves.

Carter Hall might be the last tobacco sold in the traditional foil pouch inside of a box.

There are at least four different tobaccos in this blend, plus a fruity tasting essence that’s always reminded me of Juicy Fruit chewing gum.

It’s not changed any, in the fifty years I’ve smoked it. Just a good, mellow, easy burning, mostly burley blend that is tasty and fruity all the way down to the bottom. No wonder codgers like me love it.

The value and worth of codger burleys is they taste good, and they satisfy, for not much money. Each one has, their own distinct flavorings.

If this was all I had to smoke, I’d be fine and dandy. The do gooders have forced Middleton to place big warnings :

This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical.

I’d be disappointed if it didn’t.:)

I never could get into this one. I purchase a pouch from the cigar stand in Grand Central Station in 1995 when I first arrived in this country. I tried some more recently when I purchased some for the son of a friend of mine who wanted to try pipe smoking. Probably the worst thing I ever did since he became a fanatic who was forever 'borrowing' plugs of tobacco from me since C.H didn't do it for him anymore! Hey ho.

I believe the last time I bought Prince Albert, it came in a foil pouch inside a box. The tobacco was bought at a liquor and vape shop that has a small selection of pipe tobacco (Captain Black, Half and Half). It's also where I got an older tub of SWR this fall.

Granger gave up their foil pouches a few years ago. I think the tubs may have gone away too in the 14 oz. format. Now they are mostly the 7 or 8 oz. formats.

The so-called OTC or codger blends sure have their attributes. The cuts burn better and longer than many premium blends, and though the blends change with sources of tobacco and season, they work for consistency and continuity.

I like SWR original and aromatic, and Granger. Prince Albert has a little too much cocoa flavoring which upstages the mild tobacco, and Carter Hall is a bit mild, but both are enjoyable. Half-and-Half I find a little harsh for such a dependable format of burley and Virginia; I like it better when I do my own mix of those.

There's a reason these good old blends have been around for a hundred-and-some years.

I have an unopened US manufactured tub along with older pouches I was able to round up locally.

I appreciate this blend and I used to really enjoy it, but I don’t reach for it often.

I am curious to try a sampling of the Dominican version.

Carter Hall used to be available in every grocery store and drug store in the U.S., like Tide detergent and Cheerios cereal. I wouldn't know where to buy it now in my fair sized city. The Smoker's Shop that used to sell it and one or two other blends, closed years ago, and my local independent pipe shop mostly sells premium blends.
