I came in to possession of an estate Kaywoodie Supergrain acorn.. Nice little pipe, but it smells and tastes like Carmex. I know some people use carmex to buff and polish stems, but this bowl smells like it was lathered with it. Any advice on how to get that Carmex odor out of the Briar? I've salted it and still, it smells like chapstick.
Any suggestions appreciated.

There are pipe repair places that offer an ozone treatment. I think Walker used to. I hope someone else here can give you more direction as to who can provide this service.

That's for the info. I don't recall ever having heard of that treatment. I inquired with Dave@Walker regarding the cost and his thoughts on the likelihood of the Ozone treatment being successful. Postage back and forth to Michigan will likely be more expensive than what I paid for the pipe, so I'm not sure if I'll end up going that route. If I can't get it back to my liking for cheap I'll probably just be mailing it to a Kaywoodie fan on this forum as a gift. I guess if you like Kaywoodies, keep an eye on this thread, because you might be getting a free one.

Maybe put the bowl in a ziploc baggie with dry baking soda, soak the stem in baking soda water mixture. No guarantees, but baking soda is good stuff for removing odors.........

I'll give that a shot, thanks. I'm just not sure because it's that oil-based camphor smell. Don't know if baking soda will draw that out, but I'll try it!

It's a lip balm that comes in those little round tins. It's carnauba wax-based which is why some people use it to polish pipes I guess.
