+1 on Baron's advice on the cobs.
On other baccy's you may like in the same vein:

AC Peterson Mark Twain

Sutliff Reserve Alexander Bridge

Lane Limited MV-1000 (no cavendish, straight VA. It's like 1-Q with the Cav omitted)

Lest we forget the awesome Mac Baren 7 Seas Regular (CBW), Royal (CBR), and Gold (CBG). ALso, Mac Baren 7 Seas Red should't be missed either.

I really do not have a "goop" problem with CBW and I have been smoking it for most of 20+ years, just need to ensure you dry it a bit when you get it from the can, and keep your pipes clean, but I cannot say I have had major problems with smoking CBW, and I love the taste and room note.
I love the Captain and the above quote from yuri66 is right on the nose.

Well, I'm not sure if I should purchase a Savinelli, or a 10 pipe grab bag from corncob.com
A Savinelli would be nice, but ten cobs makes for a tough decision.

Since its summer I left my tin of CBW open in my car for the afternoon, when I returned my car smelt delicious, and the 120 or more degrees in my car got rid of the goop problem, win win!

Missouri pipes has a bag of 10 pipes for 30 dollars. If you don't care which pipes you get or what they look like this is a good ideal, it will give you enough spares in your rotation that you can give your main pipes the rest they deserve.

Just thought you may not be aware, Missouri meerchsuam pipes are what I'm referring to. Google the company Missouri meerschaum I can't quite recall the website right now. There great cobs on the site and the discount ones I was speaking of.

Missouri Meerchsuam Corn Cob pipes are the way to go for beginners just learning and "veterans" who just want a nice long hot smoke. I resisted corn cobs for years. So while I still prefer briar pipes, on a hot summer day or night corn cobs just suit me perfectly. :puffpipe:

I would recomend "The General" it's my favorite cob, runs about $8 each, and is size large. Great for aromatics, if you want a shorter smoke, fill it halfway. It has an amazing feel in the hands and mouth. Cobs have much larger airways than briars do, so you pack them a little tighter and they also don't have that "goopy" problem your other pipe does because of that. They will NEVER gurgle as long as you use a bent stem :) I have found straight stemmed cobs have a smaller stem opening that does cause some gurgle with very very wet tobaccos. I would also recomend getting a cob with the Danish style stem/bit because they are much thicker and durable. I chewed through the regular bits sold on the cobs such as with The Country Gentleman and the Legend. Pipes that normally come with it are the General and the Diplomat (medium sized pipe). I would not recomend the Legend as it is size extra small. Cobs are extremely high quality, never gurgle, and are excellent for clenching since replacement stems/bits cost only 50 cents each. Aristocob.com sells extra stems with their pipes, so does Missouri Meerschaum on their website. That cheapie 10 pipe bag might be the way to go, just keep in mind many will come with large gaps betwen the bottom of the bowel and stem, so just fill up the differince with pipe mud (ashes from cigar + water, pipe ashes do not make good mud).
