hey all... I just won a neat pipe on Ebay...it's called a Capt. Black Sloop. It is a billiard with what I believe is called a "shell" texture, stained black. Now, I do remember these pipes offered for sale on the inside of Capt. Black pipe tobacco pouches back in the 80's. What I'd like to know, if anyone can help, who made these nice pipes? Does anyone know anything about there history? thanks! :)

I think (and don't quote me on this) many of them were made by Comoy of London.

They were made in England and that is as much as I know right now. I found a link to a place that sells them but hesitate to paste it here because they are not a sponsor. The link below is from pipephil and states that some were made in England and aome in France. This should give you a starting point.

No clue as to where they are made, but thanks for the reminder of the days when you opened a pouch of CB and there was the ad for a good looking pipe on every pouch...

Frank Blues (current brand manager for Mac Baren's, but a former 25-year Lane Limited employee), passed two Captain Black pipes along to me at the Chicago Pipe Show. One of them is a 'Schooner' from the 'Fleet' Series. Made in England. Info book has a copyright date of 1986. Another is a 'Helmsman' made in France. Both are Billiard shapes.I'll try to post some picks later.
