Apologies if this has been discussed before but what is the current status of these blends? Safe, endangered, or toast?

I get that “safe” is a relative term and any blend can be discontinued at any time, but given the recent Sutliff/MacBaren carnage and other issues touching on STG (for example) it seems appropriate to ask since I haven’t been very involved on the subject lately.

Thanks for any input! Have a great day and I hope your smoke is cool and relaxing 😎

These are both 2 that will be kept in U.S. market by STG.. there may be some small hiccups in supply as the distribution network shifts (or later when they shift their Danish plants) but the general consensus is that since these are both flakes they were already being made in Denmark for years... hence being classified as "International Blends"

Seeing as the UK only ever seemed to get 25g pouches of ready rubbed, does this mean we might actually be permitted 50g tins of flake? Or bugger all?
Judging by how the market is going for this stuff all around the world, not to mention the long history of previous decisions made by this illustrious company... I'm leaning heavily towards the "bugger all" option there, Bing... 😂

MacBaren Va#1 is my all time favorite....yes, I know, I'm strange.
I have several pounds in my cellar from 2005-2024.
I'm kinda looking forward to seeing if it changes for better or worse.
I am easily amused, I know.
Yeah I'm doing the same thing with the Capstan myself.. though I'm sure Leonard will tell us its all because the older stuff will have aged out of fair comparison by then.. haha

I stocked up on St Bruno before they move production and perhaps tinker with the formula. Got 25+ tins and a fair amount of the RR when pipes and cigars put them on sale for 10$ each!
Mine will say made by Mac Baren! Not made by STG or whatever they decide to stamp it with.

I have see. Bruno out of stock most everywhere I look sadly.

From what I've experienced aging MacBaren's production of St Bruno and Capstan, there's not a benefit. I'll preface this by saying that I've smoked 40, 50, 60, years old Capstan and the toppings, perhaps a little diminished, were still quite present and the tobacco was undeniably Capstan.

Whatever MacBaren was using doesn't have the same staying power. I recently opened a bag of Capstan blue from 2019 and the toppings were gone, kaput, AWOL. The Virginia base was ok, but without the topping it doesn't taste like Capstan.

Same issue with the MacBaren version St Bruno. I t doesn't age worth a damn. The toppings fade out. All of the St Bruno I set aside in 2016? Flat. Dead. The Virginia base was much inferior to Ogden's, but palatable.

Enjoy ye holdings while ye may and forget about aging them. Seriously. In the first place it's not really necessary and in the second place they don't age well at all. Hell, like STD's version of Escudo, they don't age worth a damn.

Yeah I actually saw you post about this elsewhere. Shame. I bought a few tins of each but I don't expect to keep them longer than 3-5 years... more just to at least experience it before possibly being wrecked even further lol
