Hey super friends. I recently acquired this CAO I. Beckler owl pipe. I am trying to research Beckler’s work and I understand it was common for him to do numbered series of pipes. I believe he usually numbered the pipes xx/xxx to show how many total pieces in the series. The owl I have only says #45 on the bottom. Is there any place with a catalog or details of his work where I might find more information on this one? What series it’s a part of? Maybe what year it was carved?
Thanks for any help you can give.

The carving isn't the handwriting Bekler carved into pipes. I've not seen any others used, so I'm not sure what it's for. I'm collecting information on the limited editions Bekler made each year. Except for 1978, his first year doing these (that I know of; CAO got him in '77) had editions of 50, 1979 and later were editions of 100. All I've ever seen have the name of the edition, th number (as in 38/100) and the date, say '82. So a pipe might say:

King Tut
57/100 '80

The year with the most pipe series, that I know of, was 1981, and one of them was "The Owl." This could be from that, but I've seen at least one owl without the limited edition makings. There's a bit of scattered information about Mr. Bekler on the internet, but I've compiled as much as I can about his carving subjects and editions. You have a very, very nice pipe!

Thank you for the info. That helps but still leaves so many questions. Haha.
Do you have a website where you are storing the history you are able to piece together?
