Canvasback Decoy

I was gifted a tin of The Bufflehead Shop Canvasback Decoy at least five years ago, possibly six. I am about to open it and wondered about its original date. The code on the bottom of the tin is:111 123. I can't tell if that is a date code and if it is, how to read it. Anyone out there have a thought?

I don’t think that code corresponds to the year in any way. Most that I have seen have the date written on the bottom. I have a different blend at home and I will check that one. I think the best you can do is ask the person you bought it from when it was purchased.

The shop supposedly closed down in 2005 but I’ve seen several listings stating that the person acquired it in 2006. It’s safe to assume it was 2005 or prior.

I have one Canvasback Decoy, one Root Head Merganser and one Virginia Ruddy that I bought altogether in 2003.
Unfortunately, the stamp on the Canvasback is barely readable (but it ends with 503 but was probably …11 503)
The two other blends show 117 503 and 115 503
That's all I can tell, and I'm not sure it will help you.

(I always thought that the 3 first digits refered to the blend, and that 503 refered to (May?) 2003, but your 123 seems to deny that, unless it stands for Dec. 2003, but why no 0 before the 3?.)

I checked my tin. It is a Canvasback Decoy. The code is 111 94. When I bought Pipestud said it was from 2004. Maybe the last digit does signify the year. I think Pipestud knows the answer.

Canvasbacks are delicious. Buffleheads taste like crows marinated in sardine juice are an acquired taste
