Just because it was the bottle I had on hand when I first started cleaning..., I have kept the tradition with a dab of Dalwhinnie 15, 86 proof Scots Whisky every so often after 10 or so bowls. I refrain from calling it "Scotch" out of respect for my friends across the pond.
I can tell you what I do. I fill a sink half full with hot tap water and a good squeeze of Dawn. I dump all of my acrylic and plastic (cobs) stems in the sink, and after a few minutes of soaking, I run a nylon brush through them or a pipe cleaner if a brush won't fit. Use a wash rag to clean the out side the rinse with hot water. Finally I polish them with Renaissance wax. Hope this helps.
