I agree with ravkesef about the the sugar intake. I will take a spoonful of glucose if there is a chance that I might feel sick during a smoke. I have had my share of shakes, sweats, nausea and the runs. Haven't puked yet, but there's always a first time for everything for everyone. :?

"If you feel dizzy, your heart races, you sweat, you feel nauseous - that's probably nicotine."

Thanks Simenon. This happened to me after I smoked my first bowl in 30 years yesterday. I've had no nicotine at all in that time. Dunhill Flake. Great smoke and great pipe experience except for that.

The only time I ever have gotten sick while smoking my pipe it was related to the adult beverage being consumed at he same time. Otherwise too much nicotine can give me momentarily a queezy stomach but putting the pipe down at that point knocks that out before violent nausea asserts itself.

It sure can! Be careful with high nicotine blends. Smoke them sparingly and slowly.

Nicotine does stimulate the nerves that regulate digestion. So it seems you could be experiencing symptoms like you (vaguely) describe even without taking in all that much nicotine. As others have suggested, have something to eat or drink before you smoke.

Luckily, the slight dizziness sets in before the effect hits my stomach, so I don't get nauseated or throw up.

I understand the inclination to hit some strong tobacco hard, but I find that I enjoy it more if I try a strong

blend in a small pipe and sip it, to see how it goes, rather than diving in and smoking a big bowl at a faster

pace. Later, when I know what i'm doing, I can do a bigger bowl and pace myself well. In some ways, stronger

blends seem to go easier, less bite, and easier to not light another bowl. After a full meal is a good time to

smoke and often results in the most satisfying smokes. But there is always that temptation to throw caution

to the wind, and sometimes we all need to do that, and accept the results, I guess.

I did a couple of small bowls tonight after a good meal. Frog Morton Celler in my new Savinelli Tevere and Orlik Golden slices in my Stanwell Brush Black Bent Apple. Breaking both pipes in. Took breaks for 15 minutes when I felt a little dizzy. Did fine. Liked both tobaccos. The Golden slices a little more. I sorta feel like the pipes are breaking me in.

In other news, I am pretty sure that smoking can make you ill in other ways. I am fighting off a severe dry cold right now that seems to be focused in my throat. I have no doubt that if I hadn't smoked at all this week, I wouldn't even have got it. This is not the first time this has happened to me.
