Hello to all. I picked up this chunky old pipe a while back. I put it in my pile and forgot about it for over a year. The stamp on the briar looks like it says E. Geling or E. Jeling. It's difficult to make out. It's a big and solid looking pipe. I bet it would smoke the hell out of a flake or heavy lat blend. I dig it. Does anyone out there have any info or history on it?

it is a Jelling. Smoking pipes has them on the American Estates page quite often.
From Pipedia. "The Jellings were primarily cigar makers and thus their shop was primarily a cigar store. They did purchase pipes from the different pipe factories and had their name stamped on them."

Thank you. When I was searching, I had my mind set on Geling. No wonder I couldn't get anything. Newark was Shoenleber was based too. I wonder if he had anything to do with the Jelling outfit.

Good stuff. Thanks again!

I have 2 Jellings- a Zulu from the 1960's and a NOS Dublin I just got. They're pipes were made mostly in the New York area although they also had some made in England and Italy with their name on them. Not bad smokers for a shop pipe.

Nice. I'd love to see some pics of them. Is the stamping on yours similar to mine, papipeguy? I was thinking about refinishing the one I have in a darker color but now that there are more of these floating around, I think I'll just clean up the stem and give the whole pipe a few coats of wax so I can keep it original.
