About to buy a whole pile of pipes…
Some clays, different shapes to try, a couple to share at an upcoming camp trip.
A small altinay
A small briar Cutty, for times I need to be dressed fancy.
A pipe tomahawk, because it combines two of my favorite tools :)
Some tobacco too…

Every time I go to shrink down the cart, I add something instead…
Can anybody provide a good reason to stave off the purchase?

No. I cannot help you. Mostly because I'm about to order another pipe that I don't need as well. Not only do I already have too many pipes, but I already have this exact pipe. It needs a twin though, right?

If it’s not going to cause hardship, it might be fine to go nuts. But, you might gain a better appreciation for each pipe if you purchase one, smoke it over a period of time and get a real sense of what it offers you. That experience might inform future purchases and promote being more selective with each purchase.

I often see pipes that catch my eye, and I keep an eye on them, but don’t necessarily buy right away. But, I know I really want it when I start revisiting it repeatedly—that’s when I know I would be sad if I missed out. Then, I’m pretty confident that’s a “must have” pipe.

A few ways I rein it in include buying only one pipe at a time and at some interval, like not one a day.

Shop widely, picking out candidates, then slowly whittle down the list to one, noting what you like and dislike about each pipe.

Keep in mind what you already own, so you aren't buying multiple pipes that serve exactly the same purpose.

Cull the herd at least ever two or three years, so you unload the pipes you don't smoke, using store credit to turn four pipes into one.

Shop on a determined budget.

Good luck.

Tom (@mso489),
You are the Voice of Reason

I buy pipes because I've fallen in love/lust with them
I have over 40 Bulldogs and a similar number of straight and of bent billiards
I would find it extremely painful culling any of those

PAD is a disease that DOES NOT respond to common sense
