The difference on my case is that the tins were open and the tobacco was exposed to the elements. Don't think there is any problem with sealed tins exposed to heat/humidity.
In fact, some folks "stove" their tobacco tins by leaving the sealed tin on their car dashboard on a hot summer day.

"Stoving" them on the dashboard might be okay for immediate consumption (I'm not saying it is or isn't) but it won't do you any favours in the long run. I doubt the tobacco would last too long after that sort of experience. I also wouldn't be surprised if one's seal was popped after that in certain kinds of tins...

I had to toss a can of McClelland's Rose of Latakia that went stinko. It had been half full for at least a year. I wonder if Lat goes bad more easily, never having had this problem with anything else.

My latest large shipment of tins of my favorite blend got caught in the most extreme heat wave. It seems that its most unique flavor was missing. I don't know if this was due to the heat during delivery or if the fact that it was the first group of tins which shows its new importer's name on the tins and was part of a backlog order implies that there was some rush in making it at the manufacture's end. I also wondered what would have happened if the tobacco had been bulk.
