I like the suggestion of the canoe dry box. I have one of those too, that I use for wallet, phone, and keys when canoeing.

But for pipes and tobacco when camping (or any overnight trip), I use a similarly sized/shaped pistol case. The really cheap, molded plastic kind with foam lining. The "egg carton" foam hugs my pipes in place just like it would a pistol.

I throw in a couple of pipes, a couple baggies of tobacco, a lighter, a few pipe cleaners.

For a day trip I use a leather pouch, but for camping I do fear an iron pan (or a kid) snapping a shank, and I use the hard case.

Sure, it's one more thing ... but after loading up a 12 person tent, a mosquito netted eating pavilion, piles of sleeping bags and pillows, coolers of food, and boxes of other supplies, not to mention 7 kids ... what's one more thing?

I was gonna say myself, I am between @krizzose and @Sigmund ideas.

If you have the means, then definitely, those dry boxes are the way (pistol, canoe, herfador, pelican, milsurp, harbor freight... take your pick, mostly all the same) and they can be found very reasonably still especially on bidding and surplus sites. The benefits they give to not only water protection but crushing is essential. I found that out on an ill-fated river rafting trip, lol.

But lacking that, a simple ziploc can be used as small organizing bags (ditty-bags as the army calls them) very well... especially when going on a plane, I rarely have anything loose in my larger suitcases that isn't inside smaller bags. And you can even purchase much higher quality thicker mil ones for not much more. Even double up. Don't want your pipe to get scratched by your tamper? put the tamper and lighter in a sandwich, the pipe in a quart, and both of them in a gallon to keep em bundled, haha.

In fact, I can safely say that probably more than 95% of my use of plastic zip bags is for utility, not food. Personally for food storage I find them extremely poor performing and wasteful compared to tupperware/pyrex/mason jars in most cases...

In high school I rolled a cigarette while on the back of my buddies motorcycle at 55 mph.
Absolutely true story.
Here I can barely make one even with Top-Roller, EZ-Widers, and steady ground with no wind
There are few skills in life my stubborn-ass didn't force myself to learn after encountering a need... but that is definitely still one of them haha

Well my camping is different than yours....I grew up with no amenities and I loved it, now a days we have electric, cable tv,mirco oven, air conditioning and running water...but it is still a hassle gathering all the kids up and thinking about myself

Well I guess I just need to keep some tobacco and a pipe in my camper, just don't smoke all the time, so I don't think about a pipe or smoking.....but sometimes the moment hits you
