I like them as works of art, but they look unwieldy to smoke. I don't see how they would balance,

or even how they would be held comfortably. But what a fascinating guy, and what expressive

wood sculptures. I hope the bit about him being killed is just a vagrant legend, but maybe not.

the pictures i posted were of some of his more obscure pipes. he does have some more down to earth freehands and pokers. But he was very creative.

Sounds like some of them could fetch a pretty penny considering you have the magazine article that states they're very hard to come by. I'd definitely have it checked out with someone who could give you an educated answer.

I h.ave a Don Mock pipe that I was just smoking this afternoon. It’s unlike any of my other pipes, but neither is it like any of the photos here. It’s a heavy pipe with tremendously thick walls, but a comfortable smoker nonetheless.

I see that all these posts are four years old, but very interesting and the pipes were very creative. Later I’ll post a picture and it pleases me to resurrect this thread about a pipe maker who deserves some recognition.

This is my Don Mock and I think the only one that I’ve come across in my collecting.

Another angle showing the thick walled bowl.

I know that it’s been 30 years since he passed away, but parts of his estate are currently finding their way onto eBay. I’ve already bought.some of his rough briar blocks that he had from Greece. I don’t know that I’ll actually try to make a few pipes or not, but I can look at their grain and perhaps see some potential that I’d like to work on.
