I've been away from the forum for a few days, as I have been back home with my dad who has been suffering with cancer.
He passed away peacefully on 3/7/12. My brother and I were with him. We got to talk about many things during the last few months and especially the last few days. I was able to share a new pipe with him, given to me for him by a dear friend. He wasn't able to smoke it, but he enjoyed holding it and remembering his days with the briar, Captain Black and Half&Half. His was a life well lived.
Anyway, while we sort thru the estate and make way for the future, I wanted to say to one and all:
Call your dad. Call your mom. Call your kids and grand kids. Tell them you love them. Don't wait. Tomorrow is not guaranteed...

Wildcat: sorry for your loss. Pray you may find peace and comfort in these times. I lost my dad when I was only 24, he was 59. So yeah, I echo what you just said.

I'm sorry for your loss. My grandma died when I was 2 or 3. I can't even remember what she looks like. Other then that, I've never had a family member or friend die. So I can't imagine what it must be like

Sorry for your loss, man. My mother in law died from pancreatic cancer 2 years ago. My wife and I took care of her in our home for the last days and it was hard, but I wouldn't have done things any different. I'm glad you got to talk with your dad before he passed on.

I know something of how you feel wildcat.
I'm glad you got to talk with your dad

before he passed on.
My dad got pancreatitis in 2009, and died 5 days later. I never even got to speak with him in the hospital, he was unconscious.

Well said. I lost my Dad on Valentine's Day. I did have the opportunity to talk with him and say the things that needed to be said by a son to his father. My Dad was a WW II Marine, good husband and great father. I feel your loss.

Sorry for your loss my friend. I lost my mother when her fight in ICU after more than a week passed trying to recover from major surgery ended. Our only solace is to know that they are now at peace.
