The bowls tend to be quite shallow and small. Best with cube cut flakes to give a longer smoke.

As the smoke travels through the large gourd chamber, it becomes “diluted”, giving a lighter and airier taste.
Best for strongly/heavily flavoured or high Nic blends

When the gourd gets heavily saturated with tobacco oils, the full flavor comes through.

I have one with mahogany and a meerschaum bowl. I smoke it once it a month. I'm always nervous that I'll break the meerschaum and it doesn't clench well. I always quote Hans Landa when I smoke it though.

I had a very nice Calabash that I got for a steal off ebay. I had it for a couple of years, but only smoked it a handful of times. It smoked nice, but it just wasn't for me. I sold it for double what I paid for it, so it worked out for me, and hopefully the person that bought it.
