Haha. I actually haven't tried it, yet, but I'm curious -- is the joke here that you dislike Yorktown, or is it rather that you like it and so want others to leave it for you?I'm just coming here to respectfully request that everyone stop recommending Yorktown.
The latterHaha. I actually haven't tried it, yet, but I'm curious -- is the joke here that you dislike Yorktown, or is it rather that you like it and so want others to leave it for you?
Thank you for the recommendations!Their bulk Virginia Flake, Opening Night, Yorktown (a bit of burley), Manhattan Afternoon (has a touch of honey), and of course their ltd and special releases like Carolina Red Flake.
Good to know. I had picked up their red virginia ribbon for home blending and just recently saw their Virginia cavendish, so that is now on my list. Thanks!Oh yeh, their Red Virginia Cavendish is very good, but is has a lot more nicotine than most Virginia blends. I suspect that this red comes from higher up on the Tobacco stalk. And, their Red Virginia Ribbon. Both of these do very well with a few years of age.
Yeah I dont know it did other than FM was the first blend I could actually taste after struggling with awful tongue bite and aromatics. So when I smoked AK for the first time it immediately took me back to my first bowl of FM. But I have heard no one else make this comparison. I even contacted Pipes and Cigars about buying just the virginias in this blend, no such luck.Boy, I wish that AK reminded me of FM ... that would be nice ...
But I'll second Opening Night. That's a very clean, natural, light, pleasant, "breakfast" sort of Virginia. Unlike most VAs, it comes ribbon cut, which is convenient sometimes. The flavors are subtler than in some VAs, so you'll want to smoke it with a clean palate. I always keep some around. It fills a niche my other VAs don't.
Amen, my friend!I also highly recommend Derringer, it's a solid Virginia and available in bulk
I dont mind the rum topping as Anniversary Kake had a brandy topping. I am looking for some stewed fruit, have not been able to pick up the hay notes others mention in blends. What are you looking for in a Virginia? Union square is good and clean (under the glp label). Opening night had too much vegetal/floral for me even though it’s often suggested. I do enjoy the C&D broken flake format though.
I’m a big fan of blockade runner if you don’t mind some rum topping. Burns great.
Hmm interesting that maybe as I do enjoy Balkans as well. I have some Izmir and a oriental mixture for blending that I have been wanting to smoke straight to see what flavors are there.Coming from smoking English blends i think you would enjoy bijou. Virginia and Orientals are very tasty. I used to think it was the latakia in English blends I enjoyed so much when actually it was the Orientals.
Thank you, Derringer is not one I have heard before, but sounds intriguing!C&D Derringer. Darker va's. Best when barely smoldering. Very underrated by the so called cognoscenti.
Well now Yorktown sounds amazing!I am a fan of C&D's Virginias - Yorktown, Derringer, Opening Night, Manhattan Afternoon, and their bulk flake all rate pretty highly in my book ...Yorktown with at least 2 years on it is the true breakfast of champions in the kg.legat0 handbook Cheers!
Yorktown doesn't have any burley as far as I can see or tell. I could be wrong but I second that as an amazing Va blend.Their bulk Virginia Flake, Opening Night, Yorktown (a bit of burley), Manhattan Afternoon (has a touch of honey), and of course their ltd and special releases like Carolina Red Flake.
it's one of my few must haves. It's one that always smokes great.Well now Yorktown sounds amazing!
