The coin flip of curiosity somehow quells my urge to panic and the waiting game seems more intriguing.

IIRC, much of the mold issues had (at least somewhat?) been resolved with Bijou by 2020? Seems like a sharp decline in widespread issue from then, or just before, on.
Though it was a disaster I 2016, too many red Virginia mold relates posts since makes me over cautious.

Bummer, as I thought I was really going to enjoy this one.

Sucks. Especially since it's legit my favorite C&D blend I've ever tried.

Of the 4 or 5 tins I've seen pictured with mold issues, they've all been in the 4k serial range or very low - like under 1k.

I've just opened my third tin, and there have been at least three others opened in my pipe club. No mold here yet.. All of our tins have been 6k serial and higher.

I just ordered another 5 tins of it from P&C, so curious to see what serials I get.

Pretty sure that C&D will make it right for the OP. I haven't done a detailed analysis but it seems to me that most mold issues on this forum are related to a C&D product. Maybe folks are overly suspicious given past performance but where there's smoke one is likely to find fire. Fortunately for me, I don't care much for their offerings and am now even less inclined to try the ones I have not yet sampled. Nevertheless, C&D is important to the community writ large, hopefully, the problem gets resolved and we can all go about our business.

C&D produce some excellent natural tasting blends and I'm still waiting to encounter mold so I can just call SP Costumer Service and relate the blend and tin date, get a new tin and help with quality control.

Only caveat I'd add, if you plan on cellaring your tobacco probably a good idea to open it and transfer to jar thus spotting any issues immediately; might be too much to expect for a maker/vendor to make good on a five year old tin.

I have 100's of tins, and I feel very confident in keeping them in the tins. I have found mold mostly in my Esotericas, of all the blends I have cellared. If C&D strikes fear in you, because you buy into the forum fearmongering about mold, then do whatever suits you. But, when I buy a tin, the tobacco stays in the tin... except for GH&co... but, I have stopped buying them, so... moot.

My mistake, oh cosmic one; everyone please ignore my previous post; I let fear-mongering get the better of me. My specious, pusillanimous advice wasn't directed at C&D, btw - never had an issue over the years. S Gawith? Another story, but I can't forego 1792.

Fearmongering? Typical response in today's world when someone doesn't agree with you. Lash out at them, makes you feel better.

I never need to worry about mold in C&D products. Easiest and most rewarding decision with tobacco i ever made.

I hope/assume you read the post prior to mine from cosmic-something where the term was first hurled and this wasn't directed at my tongue-in-cheek response? I've already got enough people who don't like me without adding to the total unearned.

Nope, just an observation, I am good with Cosmic and Cloozoe and everyone. This is different than the usual, "is this mold", thread. There is a track record and a trail of crumbs to follow. They tried new chemicals, new methods, something is amiss and I would rather spend my time on other thoughts.

If someone posts asking for Penzance and Stonehaven they are told that there are hundreds of blends out there, move along. This seems to fit along with that i n my book. Why torture yourself wondering if that tin is still good?

When I was in touch with SP in regards to my tins, they had told me that Jeremy (Reeves) was working diligently on this issue. I'm not sure exactly what that was supposed to mean. Perhaps a solution for future releases of this small batch, or perhaps some tins produced got a different mold inhibitor/treatment when tinned?

I know I've received a couple CRF w/ Perique tins from this year that had quite a stretch of difference in tinning dates, which begged the question if they perhaps had to halt the tinning to inhibit the potential for mold to become an issue with CRF w/Per. I can only suspect that perhaps the Georgian VAs would be the culprit if so?

C & D has had recurrent issues with mold ever since there was a change of ownership back in 2014 or 2015. I know of no other manufacturer from which I bought tobacco over the last 35 years which had mold.
Really, a pity.
