In the interest of full disclosure, I will just come right out and say that, regarding pipe smoking experience level, I am on the beginner end of the spectrum. I've not even been at it for two full years, and I'm only smoking a bowl per week at the most. I bought some ex-smoker's tobacco collection off a Craigslist ad, and it's heavily weighted toward aromatics, perhaps an 80/20 ratio.
C&D Canal Boat is one of the constituents of the "20." Decent tin note. The smoke itself was one of my most enjoyable yet. This is the first blend I've tried that is chiefly burley in composition, so I didn't know what to expect. I tried Autumn Evening about a year ago, and much to my surprise, I didn't like it. Canal Boat didn't bite once, maintained its mellow flavor all the way down, and only required one relight. It did leave a fair bit of moisture at the bottom, however, but my new Peterson Dublin 221 handled that quite nicely. I didn't get the massive nic hit that some smokers issue caveats regarding. An all around enjoyable smoke, which I will look forward to trying again.
