I never have been a big fan of burley, which explains why this has been sitting in my drawer for a few years. However, with the addition of a little kentucky, a little virginia, and a little perique, and a few years of age, it is actually quite intriguing. Starts off a bit sweet, very earthy, a little bit of bready yeast, and a little bit of Floral fruitiness, I imagine from the perique. The Virginias are noticeable noticeable with a bit of grassy sweetness. A little herbal cha which all combines to tame the cigarette ashiness that I often get from burley. That characteristic is really only noticeable in the aftertaste. With Blends like this I might be able to enjoy burley blends. A strong three stars. Smoking it in my little Comoys, because I knew better than to use the pipe with a big bowl! Very smooth and dry, and strong, right to the bottom. 1000053648.jpg

The Burley Flake series is lovely. Good on C&D for showcasing this leaf. On some older episodes of the radio show J. Reeves does an ad for the series and says something to the effect of- there's a lot to this underappreciated leaf, and that the condiments in each # were chosen to highlight certain aspects of Burley.

I think it ages nicely. There's a fat tin of #2 from '19 next in line, and a dedicated Castello waiting for it
