I have not tried it but I have a tin in the cellar from November 2023. I'll probably pop it soon, it sounds like something I'll like.

Yeah, it’s definitely a blend for straight up tobacco lovers, no topping/casing. Someone who enjoys cigars would like this one. Way too singular/cigar like for me to be smoking in my pipe. For a blend in this category, I would rather smoke a Semois blend.

I liked it fresh when I started smoking years ago and I bought a bunch of it. Now that I'm getting back around to those tins and there's a few years on em. That stuff is amazing, one of my favorites for sure

This is one of the worst things I have ever put in a pipe, and if you like nicotine, its got it in spades. I have never smoked anything under the Sun from C&D that I would buy again, so I simply do not go there.

I bought a tin of that soon after I started smoking a pipe and it had too much nicotine for me. I gave it and a corncob to a buddy of mine who said it hit like a medium cigar.

Smoking this for the first time with a coffee, and my first impression is that it’s like Haunted Bookshop without the spice and fruitiness from the Perique. I really like it and agree with others that it’s easy to smoke. Excellent quality tobacco, definitely codger style. Especially since I always cut my cakes up into thick slices and fully rub them out for a rough cut, akin to half and half. Unsure if I’d buy again, since it just reminds me of haunted bookshop.

I still have my jarred Briar Fox and don't smoke it often as to me it is like cigarettes.
I also tried to like Haunted Bookshop and had HB last night while I read a book. It was still not for me. It leaves an awful black pepper bite and the room note is like the basement of an Elks Club Bar on a slow night. (Old cigarettes)
So much I didn't like it. I threw the 80% full tin in the garbage this morning.
I will still give Briar Fox a few more bowls to see how it goes.

I had similar issues with Briar Fox. I tried really hard to like it, it seemed like I should. I went through 2 tins with continually varying experiences. I've got extras that will eventually find a new home...

I understand most burley blends will have a cigarettey smell and flavor to them, but at the same time I don’t think I’ve ever smoked a cigarette that smelled or tasted as good/nuanced as Haunted Bookshop.

I since got a bit to try between posting and it is a delightful blend, though I do find that it can get cigarette-y if puffed too fast. I agree with @zercules too, it reminds me of Haunted Bookshop sans perique, that being a benefit or detriment is up to the user. I especially enjoy it when I'm grilling, but I generally like anything when I'm grilling.

If you haven't tried it Virginia Gentleman also has Briar Fox notes, with the addition of oriental leaf to give it an interesting third dimension.
