I picked up some of this to try after seeing some good reviews. Smells strongly of maple in a good way. The first puff however was straight up cigarette. I'm going to try it again after some drying time. It didn't feel too damp so I skipped letting it air out some.

I’m not overwhelmed by it either. It’s a bit like many aromatics, but not artificial or crappy goopy ones. Just not much flavor and not enough nicotine to keep me interested. You may have some older guys chime in saying it’s an experience thing, but I personally just prefer a straight up Virginia for something sweet. I’ll dip into it every once in a while and think, man, I could be smoking something else. It’s just not for me. I enjoyed Corncob pipe and A Button Nose a lot more.

I tried the straight virginias, but my pallet can't do anything with them. Too mellow and vague. I like flavors that leave a mark when they smack you. Think from there I'm going with a bowl of Pirate Kake.

I didn’t like it at first, but Jared it for several months and was much better w/age. Try drying it a little and revisit.

Never tried it, but I've been around others smoking it and it has a nice room note. I'm not a huge aromatic smoker, but I like to keep a few on hand for the times I'm in the mood for one. It's been on my list to try, so at some point I'll pick some up.

It's the only aromatic I've somewhat liked in 20 years of pipesmoking. I probably won't be buying more, but at least I might finish the half tin I bought. As usual, the experience might depend on how you smoke it, the particular batch and other factors.

Autumn Evening is a stout red Virginia cavendish. Try the blending red Virginia cavendish, I think it’s the same leaf used in the blend. I’ve always thought it was a kind aromatic to start with but if you get it too hot it gets rank like everything else. That red Virginia cavendish is a sleeper.

I hate AE after trying it on two separate occasions but recently I realized that my distaste for Virginias came from not knowing how to smoke. I'll be trying this again.

This blend took me a long time to finally 'get it' - I freakin' love the stuff now. It's so easy to smoke this one too fast - however, the end of the bowl turns into deep red va flavor for me if I keep a proper cadence. Even better with some age on it. Good luck!

I also got the cigarette taste from it along with a heavy dose of maple. I believe I described it as tasting like the ashtray at IHOP.

Huh, I've never got any cigarette taste from Autumn Evening! My best suggestion would be to keep it burning slow and cool, just a smouldering ember, and sip the pipe gently with the breath method. A lot of aromatics can turn ashy and unpleasant tasting if they get burning too hot, but if you keep them burning slow and cool you'll get a nice tasty smoke.puffy

I like Autumn Evening, on occasion.

I’ve never noticed a cigarette taste. But it does smoke better with some significant drying.

I prefer Wilke Vermont Maple though.
