Don't mailmen need to check for one's ID when delivering pipe tobacco in California? If so, doesn't that mean that they simply don't deliver to rented mailboxes?
not sure but when I've had package mail or other couriers that needed id. usually for insurance over legal reasons I have been able to pick up the pack at the post office or other shipping locations (for ups and fedex). So maybe worth looking into it.

Interesting. That may be the way to go for me.

Is there any way to instruct them beforehand to send the package to a post office where you can be ID'd? How did it happen that your packages were delivered to a post office?

I can't quite put my thumb on why it is happening, but people are getting the incorrect impression that I'm underage.

Is it because I mentioned getting ID'd? It must be a problem with reading comprehension. I last brought it up because if I have something delivered to a rented mailbox, and I'm not there to get ID'd (the most likely outcome), then the package may not be delivered. The first time I brought it up was because my complex has draconian mail rules which involve payments and such. I guess I wasn't clear enough. If I were "much afeared" of getting ID'd, then why have I entertained several times the idea of visiting a brick-and-mortar store? Again, reading comprehension cannot be done without.

I am quite young but am of legal smoking age as of recently. And I do know how to handle a pipe based on knowledge preened from YouTube; I just haven't tried to till now due to the legality of the ordeal. Of course, that didn't stop me from stocking up on matches and pipe cleaners.
You did well until you've gotten to "I do know how to handle pipe based on knowledge preened from YouTube". Let us know how it went. Don't quit based on the knowledge you have found on YouTube.

I didn't mean I am an expert. I just know the basics.

If you're interested in the first experience of a virgin pipe smoker, I'll keep you posted when that comes.

Yes, please. YouTube typically has very minimal information on how to smoke tobacco pipe. Typically, pipe smokers who started with YouTube will get partial information that doesn't work or lead to what we call a "tongue bite". Most packing or loading information is not detailed enough to give enough air among the tobacco to cause a bad smoking experience at most. But, there are those who manage to learn.

A lot of smoke shops that mostly sell cigs and chew will have some codger pouches for sale. There's one near me that has Sir Walter Raleigh, Half & Half, Super Value, Smoker's Pride Captain Black, and Borkum Riff. The first two are in my regular rotation. Head shops often do as well.

Well, you got me. I must have confused the word for something else.
That said, my point is not invalidated by this confusion whatsoever.
Well…welcome to pipe smoking. In time, sooner rather than later, I am positive you will catch on to why we are so amused. Until then, please keep us informed. I assure you, we are rooting for you in a positive way.

California resident here. Never had a problem ordering tobacco from online retailers.

Do your friends or family live in areas with similar restrictions? Might be worth it just to have them buy it for you, or use their address as the shipping address.

My mom lives in Nevada so I have her get me the 190 proof everclear since I can’t buy they here.

Our reading comprehension is just fine, but many of us just can't resist a bit of humor.

This business about your community having draconian rules about what mail can or cannot be delivered, if I understand you correctly, has me intrigued, as it's a federal offense to interfere with the delivery of any mail, short of a court ordered seizure. Moreover, no one has a legal right to scrutinize your mail, unless it's done as part of a court ordered sting operation or such like. This also assumes that you're not in stir.
