Butz-Choquin Ultima Dublin

Out of curiosity, I searched through the forums about Butz-Choquin pipes, and there was relatively scant discussion about them. I have a BC Ultima Dublin just like in this photo. I have found it wonderful for many, many years. I AM NOT interested in selling it, as it is one of my favorite pipes. But, for whatever reason today, I began to wonder what folks thought of BC pipes overall, and thought it might be a good conversation starter since I could not find much talk about this brand.

Another part of why I decided to write about this pipe is because it had been missing for at least two years, and I very happily found it this morning on a closet shelf while I was hiding Easter eggs for an Easter egg hunt for the kids coming to our Easter dinner. It was a wonderful and happy surprise to find it…. after all this time, I thought I must have lost it somewhere out doors on a walk.

I have a BC Caprice bent billiard, rusticated, with a bright raspberry stem. I bought it because I somewhat liked the Peterson Dracula pipes, the color contrast, but the Dracula blood theme seemed a little corny to me, just my take on it. My BC is a great pipe, always enjoyable to smoke, and at least ten years old by now.

I'm a fan of French pipes, their snappy designs on traditional themes, and the competitive quality between French pipe makers along with their excellent prices with quality beyond the price point.

I’m really sorry that the Butz Choquin factory closed a few years back

I have only one BC - a straight bulldog I bought in the early 1970s - the first of some 40 Bulldogs

Something about that pipe must have resonated with me for me to end up with so many

I have a BC four square I bought new 4 or 5 years ago. Great pipe, and real bargain for the ~$65 I paid for it

Yes, it should be Butz-Choquin.

Yes. I apologize…. It was a typo…. It should be Butz Choquin….. autocorrect incorrectly “corrected” Choquin and I did not notice until the edit time period had passed.

OzPiper, I had heard that BC had closed, but the pipes kept showing up with retailers new online, so I wasn't sure. I'm sorry to hear they're gone. What used to be a good pipe is now also a piece of history.

I'd forgotten my other BC, a Rocaille shape 1607 straight billiard with a tapered stem and wide nickel band, another really well-turned-out pipe. I'm lighting it up right now with Lane Limited HGL.

Very nice pipe, and what a lucky find, almost a new (to you) pipe again at this point.

BC were a must have pipe for a while there weren't they.
There isn't threads about them, like say Dunhills, but I've never heard a bad word said when they have been mentioned.

I can't contribute to stories of enjoyment as yet.
Long story very short, I bought a BC a fair while back now, I'm yet to put any tobacco in that poor pipe.
I still haven't unpacked it from the last move, I'll have to get a picture, I can't even remember the model.

just received this one yesterday. I’m on my second bowl in it and it’s a great smoking pipe. Loved the unique color and stem. Bought it here on the site. It’s a Nocturne 1601

I like my BC Fait Main Calabash which is excellent but it has thin sidewalls and can get very hot unless sipped very, very slowly so I only use it occasionally. It is also very expensive (for me) so its not a daily knockaround pipe - I use it as more of a dress pipe or tasting pipe if there is such a thing. A good relaxing pipe though. I've never read anything dispositive about them.

I don't have enough pipes to take them out of rotation for a prolonged period, but I occasionally forget one in my travel bag and don't realize it for awhile. I know the feeling! I have to start thinking about doing that purposefully. Thanks for the idea.
