I have managed to secure a few tins of this hard to find blend, but I haven't yet cracked one open. Has anyone here tried it, and if so, do you like it? Is it like Penzance?

No, way different than Penzance. Wonderful stuff. The Orientals really shine and its a well balanced blend. I just put some up for sale on the bay actually. I have not tried the Arango version that was released, just the Stokkebye made version when Mike Butera was bringing it in. It was one of my favorite blends for quite a few years.

I understand the current version is made by JF Germain. Any noticeable difference between the current version and the older version?

I have a few dozen of these marvelous Orientals, since the bird has occupied my Top10, Top25, Top50, Top100 and now Top200 Cellars. Other than the effect of age, the various vintages, made by the Danes and now Germain (some tins have the 'Made in Denmark' crossed out) are pretty similar.

Haven't tried it yet but I do have 3 tins waiting. Would really like to get my hands on an older production tin so I could do a vertical tasting sometime but I'm just not willing to shell out at this time. If one ever comes up for trade, I probably will try to trade for it though.

I bought a tin of the Germain version last week and cracked it as soon as I got home. I was completely underwhelmed as it had almost no flavor, so I jarred it up. I'm smoking it now as I write and it has greatly improved. Still not a powerhouse tobacco, more in the elegant, refined vein.

Love it. Very heavy oriental. I only have 4 tins left (used to have 12) only one is old stock from 1991. I have a tin of kingfisher from 1995 all are sealed. I can't bring myself to crack the old stock ones.
