?Burnt My Tongue with Zippo

Dear Forum members,

hope you are having a good holiday.

I recently bought a Zippo lighter + Zippo Fuel. The problem is:

1.Lit the pipe, after 30 minutes can't taste anything. (No burning sensation)
2.Waited 1 week to recover taste back (meanwhile used my trusty Clipper)
3. Tried another time with the zippo, again can't taste anything.

The question is: how that happen withoth actually burning my toungue?

Been using Zippo forever. Never had this problem. Not sure what's causing this issue.

Never had that problem with a Zippo. Could it be that your puffing too hard when your lighting the bowl. Try lighting with a match and then switch to a Zippo when you get about half way down the bowl.

I would guess that the lighter fluid is not a good match for your taste buds. I think some people are sensitive to lighter fluid fumes and some are not. I would recommend getting a butane insert for your Zippo. That way you can enjoy the Zippo and not be bothered by the lighter fluid fumes.

Thanks for the reply. Did the first quarter of the bowl with the clipper lighter, problem started with the zippo. Puffing is not the problem since I'm not a novice smoker.

Try different combos of pipe, lighter and tobacco!

Please put your location in your Profile as people are forgetful.

My best guess then is that there's something in the Zippo lighter fluid that is effecting your body chemistry, as anantaandroscoggin has suggested.

Never had an issue with the zippo ... it's not my first choice in lighting my pipe, but I'm just saying ..

Are you sure it's genuine Zippo lighter fluid?

I can't even taste Zippo fuel and it's the only lighter I use for pipes.

Perhaps you are allergic to some ingredient used in it?

Sounds more like you just got the tobacco too hot rather than the zippo fuel doing something.
