Last night when I was getting ready for the final smoke of the day, I had my cob in my mouth and it slipped out. I grabbed it with my left hand and it landed ash-side down in my hand. Now I have blisters in-between my right and middle finger web. Ouch! Anyone ever do something this dorky with their pipe?

I use leather work gloves while smoking my pipes, with a fire extinguisher nearby. But seriously, worst I've done is have a loose stemmed pipe over turn on me while driving in traffic. More worried about the car seat than the skin.

Gee, now that were talking about leather hands, being a working jeweler I use a laser for most of my repair work. I routinely 'laser' my fingers holding the jewelry to weld at very close positions, within 1 mm.
If the power is high enough, I will exclaim a 'sh@t' or equivalent expletitive out loud as my finger is burned, but, that's the job.

I'm a klutz, and at least once a week I'll tamp down too hard, hit an ember, and burn the hell out of my finger. I should force myself to tamp with my fretting hand so I don't feel it, but that would deprive my wife of hearing "Damnit!" followed by me shaking my finger like an idiot.

I have had a few issues with the wind blowing my tobacco away and making a monkey out of me but nothing like you have described.
Yesterday, though, I mistakenly knocked a pile of ashes and dirty pipe cleaners onto my carpet. I was not amused...

and as a result, my skin is like leather, especially on my hands, and it takes quite a bit to burn me. In fact, I'll sometimes "tamp" my first light with a fingertip, if I've forgotten to grab a tamper before I walk outside, and I don't even notice the heat.
wow! I cant imagine putting my finger into that burning inferno. :) I'm a computer nerd but you'd think my guitar playing would toughen up my hands a bit but I have yet to see someone play with the webbing of their fingers... yet.

I spilled my lit pipe over my computer keyboard a few weeks ago. Now my down arrow has a nice "melting" look to it.

I just bought a few of those el cheapo pipe holders on AMZN and I think they're the best investment Ive made so far.

Back in the 1950s when I started smoking, I had never heard of a tamper. I used the right index finger for that job. Slowly being cooked, it developed a hard layer of skin over it, and became somewhat heat resistant. Then I started hanging at a pipe shop which introduced me to a 25 cent tamper. (There were also 25 cent clay pipes and new Dunhills for $22.) Good idea, I thought. Today the finger is back to normal, though still often used without thinking as a tamper.

There's the old saying "once burned, twice shy"
I emptied out a bowl in the palm of my hand once, thinking there were no hot ashes left. There were - ouch!

I didn't raise blisters like you did, but I never did that again.

There's a lot of guitar players on this forum huh? I am able to pick up hot pans and such no problem as well, and I also play guitar, so next smoke I think I'll try tamping with my index finger on my fret hand and see how that goes.

I'm a creature of habit and usually smoke my pipes at the end of the day. I can't tell you the number of times I've dozed off and just about dumped a bowl.
