I have a savenelli autograph and it has a burn out in the lower side, not all the way through. I have smoked pipes for 40 years and never had a pipe do this. What can I do, is it bad briar. I need help, maybe I am just up a creek without a paddle. I know it’s not my fault

If it’s not all the way through, then I’d mud it with some pipe mud. I’ve never had that happen to me though, so I’ll defer to the others that have firsthand experience.

My oldest Sav, which was a basket pipe, is forty years old, and none of my Savs has shown any signs of a burnout process, but burnout can happen to any pipe with an undetected flaw in the briar (or other bowl material I suppose). Is this a new pipe, an estate pipe? If it is anywhere near new, you may be able to get a replacement, although it could take months. Even in off brands, this is pretty rare, but it happens. I'm surprised this happened in an up-market series, but so it has.

I'm like you, never in nearly 40 years of smoking have I had a briar burnout on me...I did have several cobs do it though for obvious reasons. I threw the cobs away of course, and probably would the briars as well. Regardless of what you do, that pipe will never be the same (in your head).

Was it an after market/estate sale or from a known source? If the former, probably not much you can do about it, if the latter, you may want to try contacting them and find out what, if anything, you can do.

I think I had something similar to this happen to me.
It was an estate pipe that I got from eBay. When ever I smoked it, the middle of the bowl to the left of the stem would get really hot within seconds. I looked inside and had a dig with a pipe tool and a load of, what I would think was pipe mud came out. It looked like the previous owner had reamed it with a power tool!
I repacked it with pipe mud and to my surprise, it was a little better but no where near to being perfect.
I binned it in the end. Probably not what you wanted to hear.
May we see a picture if you have one?

How to place a photo in a post:
If it's on your computer, you can drag it into the REPLY Box directly, or to the Image box (see below) after opening the dialogue box. If you are LINKING* to an image, click on the Link button and paste the URL into the box that opens. The symbol to LINK is the right hand symbol on the upper left of the box. (Looks like a tilted infinity sign.)
No need to resize, as the server will do that for you. Choose full size image, not thumbnail.
* Photos from many—even most—websites can be displayed by copying the image's URL, usually by Control-clicking onna Mac; or right-clicking on Windows, selecting the URL (often stated as "Copy Image Location" or similar words), then copy/paste that into the window.
