BTW, some of you are referring to the Ropes and twists as burleys, but some of them are dark Virginias. While Brightleafs are all from the "Virginia Gold" (commercial name for it) or orinoco seed stock, the African and dark Virginias are more powerful than most burleys. They've just acclimated to the climate and aren't flue cured.
We just "think" of Virginias as being the brightleafs, flue cured to light yellow to red to deep brown, but the dark (or Empire) Virginias are also in the Virginia family. The Virginias have a definite set to the way the leaves stand in the fields, so you can look at how a plant is growing to see whether it is a true burley or not.
But, I can see where the confusion comes from. If all you know about the tobacco is on the shelf in tins and pouches, then it gets confusing.
