I have been smoking cigars quite a bit this summer. Do you find the smaller ring grains stronger? The smaller maduras seem to whomp me harder than the churchills or robustos. At least in the ligeros, fire cures, and maduras.
I haven't smoked cigars in a few years. But, when I did, it always seemed like the bigger cigars, Churchills etc., always packed a bigger hit, probably for no other reason than they are bigger cigars and you can get a 45+ minute smoke.
I will will say that the biggest nicotine hit I ever got was smoking a Samuel Gawith cut black rope in a pipe. I think my Savinelli was even sweating.

The end result of dining at the Black Frigate Galley.
That was much worse!

I do get the hiccups and some stomach reflux from certain blends, but I don't think any were burley. Wild atalantic by peterson is one I certainly remember ..

Burley tobacco has a high PH of ~7. I’ve had experiences where it feel like I have indigestion from burley if it hasn’t been in my tobacco diet for awhile. It does go away if you stick with it; your body will adapt to the PH change.

Okay, it was a one-time digestive anomaly. Could be anything -- something you ate, gas, a muscle cramp. Somewhere I heard that drinking too much beverage, even just water, soon before you eat, dilutes your stomach enzymes causing disruption. Supposedly you should let your stomach empty of liquid before you eat much. Just an idea, if you have another incident.

I get a rush from a cigarette, but a pipe full of a good burley or a strong VaPer smoked slowly will set my eye lids to drooping
I find that different modes of ingesting nicotine will give different effect. Sublingual, direct tobacco, as in dip or chew, is the most stimulating. Cigarettes are more relaxing, like a quick hit that fades though. A pipe is relaxing too, but absorbing nicotine from smoke in your mouth somehow feels different. I smoke mostly Burley and I get more nicotine than I would from a cigarette, but it comes on slower and lasts longer. Gives me more focus.
I used to be the guy with a cigar in his mouth all day at work, often not lit. I'd chew on them unlit while working and light them when taking a break. Best of both worlds.

Here
I vote for nicotine effect. I also smoked cigs heavily for 30+ years.
The nicotine from the pipe IS different and usually begins with the quiver in the gut when heading into overdose, at least for me. I never stop when that begins, as I enjoy nicotine in all its forms.
As for the Captain's impact on the ship, I suspect the introduction of various industrial cleaning elements has "upped" the ante, as they say. And I was worried about the fireworks....

You should see the mortar set I bought for tonight!
Here's something I haven't seen addressed in the thread. Was the OP Ignacio smoking on an empty stomach? That can sometimes cause a bit if upset.

Damn Embers, that toilet saw enough of your ass, or your ass saw enough of the toilet's mouth.

Burley tends to do that to more delicate or older stomachs. The solution is either mix it with something else, avoid it, or empty the bowl before you get close to the dottle (bottom).

Thank you, guys. I'm somewhat out of pocket right now. Glad to see y'all keeping the conversation down to its usual low level in my absence!
