I'm smoking a glorious blend composed of bright virginia and burley that the blender claims was stored for 7 years. It's a rich, sweet and delicious smoke.
But, for the first time in my smoking life, I'm feeling a slight "thing" in my stomach. It's not strong enough to be called ache, certainly not nausea... it's more like a slight cramp. Nothing I can't stand, but I'm curious.
I don't think it's the nicotine, since I was a 20-30 cigarettes a day smoker until a couple of months ago.
I have experience with virginia, perique, orientals, latakia, but I'm new to burley. Could that be it?

Could be gas....
But seriously, unless someone chimes in and claims they get that feeling when they smoke burleys it might have absolutely nothing to do with it. Could be a reaction to the nicotine, but who knows? You were smoking over a pack of cigarettes a day. Nicotine might not bother you so much. If it persists, my recommendation would be to ask a doctor.

I dunno but I do know this - During my tobacco discovery phase, trying dozens of blends, one common denominator was that I hated, absolutely hated, burley blends, unless it was a Cavendish blend.

Paired with coffee, it can sometimes be quite explosive
That explains events earlier this morning in the Embers household.

Cigarettes are like comparing fire crackers to morter blasts when we are talking nicotine.
Are the cigarettes the firecracker or the mortar? I've gotten far more nicotine from a cigarette than ever a pipe, but the pipe certainly tastes better.

Might be the blend itself, or something completely unrelated, maybe something you ate.
The only time I've had stomach trouble that might be pipe-related was a bowl of C&D Sam's Blend I had one Friday evening: throughout the whole Saturday I had nausea. I haven't revisited that blend again, though I'm curious.

I get a rush from a cigarette, but a pipe full of a good burley or a strong VaPer smoked slowly will set my eye lids to drooping.
Try a Churchill sized maduro sometime and get back to me. :)

You all crack me up.
It wasn't a bathroom related thing. More like a stomach hiccup (?). Anyway, seems like it was a one time only thing. I smoked two more bowls of the same blend, and nothing happened.
It's a local, artisanal blend called Don Alfonso by Tabacos SN.
