Interesting phrase….. “too machined”…. I do think it is an apt term. For me…. The “machined” precision is what gives the pipe (any type of machined pipe) a “traditional” look…. which I tend to prefer over freehands.
The dual cones and diamond shank just look too manufactured. The flowing lines of shapes such as billiards and zulus just look more natural and less gimmicky.

Ah, you meant it differently I see. I was thinking you meant any standard, consistent, symmetrically “milled shape”. The way I read your original statement, I was thinking you only preferred freehand shapes. My misunderstanding.
