I figured out my problem. I started out collecting Kaywoodies. So I took a minute to look at some of their old shape charts. They call everything with a bead line a bulldog. Shank isn't a factor at all, Diamond, round, triangle, all bulldogs. I'm not suggesting that's the last word. I understand the definition has changed since 1955.

I have seen where a bend determined the difference many years ago.

What number is the Peterson?
I’ve got one pre-republic (block made in Ireland) just like that with no shape number, and two others (circle made in Ireland) that are both stamped “210” which I can find no info on. Best part on the 210’s-ones a plip and one a fishtail😉

I was always curious about bulldogs, but I came into the above and a couple others and am having a hard time warming up to the shape at all.
