Isn't "canis" Latin for dog?
I have a special place on my rack reserved for a bent Tinsky and a Peterson 999. I think that Mark is the master of the modern American Bulldog/Rhodesian, and the Pete 999 is just a bazooka of a pipe, particularly in a vintage pipe. So I'm on the look-out!

The 999 looks like the Rhodesian version of the 80s.

Canis is Latin for dog, and also I messed up cyno is Greek for dog so it would be taurocynophobia in Greek, I used Latin for bull and the rest Greek so my bad.

My three favorites:

Ashton Pebble Grain

Charatan 109, "Rough" grade (ie ungraded). Not a beauty, but the shape and size is right. I'd love to find a smooth, graded 109 but they don't seem to exist. I remain vigilant!

James Upshall S, just a fantastic smoker. I like the burgundy stain.

I've got one bulldog. It's a tiny little Tsuge bent bulldog that I got from smokingpipes.com. Smokes great. It's my little flake smoking machine. It has the smallest diameter of any pipe I own.

I remember when those Tsuge bulldogs were available on smokingpipes.com, quite a few of them, for really low

prices, just down the page from Tsuge's $400 pipes. Then they disappeared, along with the less expensive pots

and brandys. Someone at SP or Tsuge made a marketing decision that they would make more money selling their

high end pipes. Maybe they felt they were competing with themselves or dragging down the esteem with the high

end buyers. Anyway, no more inexpensive bulldogs for a long time now. They looked like great little pipes, and

now I'm glad to learn they were!

I like bulldogs. I have a Comoyssecond, but don't have a picture of it. I also like Rhodesians. Here are my two Rhodesians.
A Danish Sovereign, that I bought from samcoffeeman. It looks even better in person.

A Wally Frank, with a spittle cap. It's like a Rhodesian-Cavalier hybrid.

I think I have figured out why I do not own a bulldog, the height of the bowl is too short. I like a bowl height of at least 1.75 inches which is why I like my Rhody's. The bulldog seems too short, so I guess length does count in some instances. lol

I like a quarter bent, squat bulldog. With my short, fat fingers, it's difficult to load a taller, narrow bore pipe. That includes my Country Gent cob pipe, which I can't even get a pinky finger into. The squat, wide bulldog allows me to easily load tobacco with the right pack. With a long cut tobacco, like MacBaren Golden Extra, I don't have to rub it out in order to pack a bowl correctly.
And, as other have said, it feels great in hand.

I have only one bulldog and it's an alternate take on the shape, it was made by Russ Cook and he calls it a "diamond dog" --- does it qualify?

Only have one bulldog in my modest collection - Parker Jockey 73, not an expensive pipe but certainly a great little smoker. Its the pipe I take to the pub. I can say since smoking a bulldog that my tastes on shapes have changed. I used to love the traditional bent billiard in line to something that Basil Rathbone would have smoked in the Holmes movies, now instead of getting a Peterson Sherlock Holmes Baskerville or the Original or the Watson; I'm now considering getting the Baker Street or the Hansom. :puffpipe:
On another note that Diamond Dog looks like a dream.
