Pulled a few tins from basement storage. All the flat (tin lid) tins seem good….flat. Half my other tins (plastic lid tins) seem to be bulging. Some barely, some profoundly.
Am I to assume that any bulging would indicate spoilage and hence a trip to the trash can??

Definitely a dangerous situation.

When those things explode they go off like a hand grenade.

Only one guy on this board knows how to deal with them safely.

His name is "jpberg". I strongly recommend that you ship him any bulged or otherwise suspect tins ASAP.

He won't even charge you for the service. (I know because he rescued me from over three HUNDRED bulged cans of Balkan Sobranie in my basement several years ago at no cost. I thank my good fortune daily.)

In my experience , they are at the ideal point to open. Never had a bad bulged tin in many years of smoking and always better than new. Do not age them more , just open and smoke.

I like big cans and I cannot lie...anyway

Fermentation makes things great. Bread. Beer. Bourbon. Beef. Prosciutto. Tobacco. Wine. Cheese. I've heard one-third of the human diet comes from fermented food.

Except for yeast infections. Ain't nobody got time for that! 😆

I recently opened a qt Ball jar with FVF from 2008. Lid was bulging a bit. unthreaded the ring 3/4 off, and it popped the ring & lid 8-10” off the jar.
