Glad you like it, Nevadablue. They do get hot. Holding it by the lower chamber helps. I plan to double wall them going forward. More of a novelty than a daily smoker. However, I have one that's smoked daily for two-months straight. No issues.
Have fun with the other pieces.
"CWP Custom". Hmmm. I like the ring of that. I could sell a few then buy me a real pipe. :)

Go for it! I really think the pipe is near perfect, well, maybe all the way perfect. I don't think double wall is necessary for one like this. I was holding it by the node between the bottom and top chambers and happened to touch the bowl while puffing on it. HOT, but like I said, almost immediately it cooled down. I like it a lot. Now you will have me sawing some of my larger bamboo and adding stems to it. LOL, happy piper here. :)
Oh, if you can do it, please replace the pics that are missing from this thread. It is a good reference for pipe makers and wanters.

That's was my fault, I was updating on flikr and broke the links. I'll repost soon. I do professional photography, so I think I'll break out the real gear and do something better.

I can hear the sawing now. I'd be curious to see you turn a grove on the lathe. They're a little off, non-symmetrical.

Again. My bamboo pipes, (my apologies, it's a re-post due to changing image host and the old links were broken):

The second, I call the "Dirty Diesel" The bowl or stack is a sleeve, pressed in and glued with elmers to seal -and it holds well to the heat. The main body was cut as a sort of grill, more for looks. However, it actually works. When the pipe gets hot on the draw, I don't feel it unless I touch the stack directly.
The Stem accommodates a 9mm filter. All these pipes are reverse calabash, most have removable stems for cleaning and filtering. The node is used a base with holes for screening. So far, none of them have burned through, even after daily use.
