I like the idea of padding behind the buffing wheel! Thank you for the inspiration.

I use low grit sandpaper and micromesh sanding pads before I go to the buffing wheel. I use white diamond buffing compound after I have made corrections or removed oxidation with sand paper. Then I use carnauba wax to give the pipe the glossy finish.

@georged I noticed Monzerna has rebranded their buffing compound lineup since your early stem making video where you spoke highly of their product. Do you still prefer them and do you have specific recommendations from their rebranded lineup?

I've not tried any of their new stuff. Sorry. (A brick lasts for years, and I'm well stocked with the original recipe)

I bought a couple of bars of different abrasive levels and they'll last the rest of my life.
I bought a bar of carnuba wax 13 years ago, it's used about 40%.
I wish sandpaper lasted as long....

Thank you MilesDavies. I don’t have a Dremel.

Since I am waiting for the new compound bars to arrive I took two of my pipes that I have really neglected in the past few years and gave it a try with what I have. A quick pass with the micro-mesh pads to clean and to eliminate scratches and bumps, the Fabulustre that I had already ordered and carnauba, both on the buffing machine. I am quite happy with the result.

This one is the first one as it was before the treatment. No major damages. Some scratches, toothmarks, and the need of a good clean.

I’ve seen that same buffer on Amazon. The sell at a very reasonable price point and have a variable speed dial too if I’m not mistaken. Did you have to mount yours to your work table or is it ok just sitting. I was wondering about replacement wheels too. Do they sell them on Amazon as well?
