Terrific! Love the coloring on that beauty. Age? Did you get her new?
Thank you. I bought the pipe brand new in 1985, it was as white as snow when I purchased it at a local Arnold's Tobacco here in Queens, NYC. The carver is the master, Yunus Ege of Turkey. Much of his work was sold through SMS Meerschaum. I've been smoking it ever since, with repeated smokes on Sundays during, you guessed it, the Vikings football games. The coloring is derived from smoking it repeatedly over the years. It's got a way to go but I'm working on it!
I went through two stems, both from SMS, and both suffered the same fate: pipe cleaner (due to the wire scraping over and over at that spot trying to get it through) popped through the stem (at the extreme, almost 90 degree bend portion and even though I was careful, especially with the second one.) Ric turned that stem from a single rod and made it a bit chunkier at the bend spot, plus, it feels as though he polished the draft hole as a cleaner passes smoothly through it to the bowl.
Since '85, and much more recently, I added two more beautiful Yunus carved Viking figurals to my collection, they are works of art and interesting when I compare the carvings. Mr. Ege has since retired, to my knowledge.
