@retrogasm: My conjecture is simply based on the nature of the beast. It's easily predictable. Too much at stake at the highest levels of power in the government/corporate/financial matrix to take "Brexit" sitting down. The usual establishment mouthpieces have already been out there explaining how a renegotiation and 2nd vote should be pursued.

The petition was created in May by (ironicaly) a LEAVE supporter who thought the vote would go the other way.
The signatures aren't legit: Hundreds of thousands of signatures (maybe even over a million?) were put there as a 4chan prank. They set up autovoter bots to add millions of signatures.

Let me qualify this. I meant to write "not all of the signatures are legit." I didn't mean to imply none were, but since you can only go back and edit for a short time, once I re-read my post I realized I couldn't edit it.
