Brigham Pipes have been around for over 100 years. They have a very unique internal design, a beautiful exterior, and ... drum roll please ... they are affordable for normal people!
You don't have to trade in your personal jet and send your butler to pick one up for you.
Industry powerhouse, Brian Levine takes the reigns at the new US operation of Brigham Pipes:

Nice --- I've seen these guys' work on Ebay and I gotta say -- they have the finest flame-frain pipes I've seen at fantastic prices about half of what I'd expect them to be. Very cool to hear they'll be putting out in the U.S.

I'm intrigued because I've never heard of Brigham Pipes before now. I would like to hear the opinions from some seasoned smokers who have tried, or own, a Brigham Pipe.

My grandfather smoked nothing but Brigham's from about 1940 - 1980, obviously he swore by them. I haven't had a chance to lay my hands on one yet (sadly, he didn't keep his pipes); not because of availablity, rather any funds I have earmarked for pipe smoking currently go towards TAD, but I've got my eye on a beautiful Bulldog that just might make it into my collection this weekend.
For what it's worth, I've had a chance to sample a good 20 different Brigham tobacco blends, and to my (newby) taste-buds, they perform as well, if not better, than some of the big names - the D-Series tobaccos are simply amazing.

I can't decide if I should rue, or look forward to, the day when I can order them from the U.S. at 1/6th of the cost I can get them for in Canada.

I wish them luck but I honestly don't see a very big market for a lower to medium end system pipe here in the states. But what do I know? 8O

It will be interesting to see how Brigham does in the U.S.
If anyone can make a go of it, Brian Levine can.
I think they may actually find a good market here specifically because they are affordable and good quality.
With the pipe smoker market in a growth phase, many of the new younger smokers don't have a budget for a higher end pipe. Even a new smoker that does have a big budget probably wouldn't justify a higher end purchase when he is just starting out as he doesn't know if he will stick with it, and what kind of pipes he is going to end up gravitating too.
I think Brigham is in the right place at the right time.

I hope you're right Kevin,....more options to the smoker and more pipes on the market to curb inflation. What's not to like? :puffy:

That's good news. Really like that volcano 84 shape.

I don't see those around too often.

I have a Brigham Algonquin Rhodesian -- a lowly 2-dot, and it's a great smoker. My particular pipe is slightly heavy for its size, but I enjoy it because the stem is so comfortable in my mouth.
The rock maple "filter" tube acts mostly as a condenser of sorts, and they are terrific. If you're somewhat frugal you can wash the filters in plain water after several uses. I clean them by soaking them in gin -- but they're cheap enough to just throw away after they've gotten a good work-out.

Larry,
Thanks for that mini review.
Since my last post, I did a little reading and learned about the "dots" and enough more, with your "thumbs up" to put one these on my P.A.D. list.

I bought one a little over a year ago. I found it to be a nice pipe, if a little finicky. I ended up taking the filter out, and smoking it without one. Without the filter, it just seems like a pipe that has been opened up slightly. With the filter, the draw is sorta tight.

I like the rusticated look of the pipe, and it feels good in the hand. Glad to hear they are expanding.

I find that I don't smoke it as often as a thought I would. Probably because I have too many others I like better.

I have two Brighams in my collection. A 1/4 bent rusticated apple that was my first pipe, and a four-pin 84 volcano that's half rusticated. I got it off of eBay not too long ago. I have run them with and without the filter, and I can't tell the difference, to be honest. The volcano is my favorite pipe at the moment. Comfortable, good smoker.
Of course here in Canada you can't turn around without hitting a Brigham. :)

I posted earlier on the subject of Brighams.

I own two, and love them.

Anyone have good ideas about cleaning the filters between smokes?

I have been using 151 rum and pipe cleaners to treat mine; works well.

I also read of a hot soapy water and hot water rinse. Sounds good to me.

Anyone else?

I like by Brighams so much that I will acquire more; they are smooth cool smokers, and look great too!

Fr. Dave
