Hey so I've been lurking around here for a bit, made only one post briefly introducing myself. I'm 32, work for the public transportation here in Toronto and have now been smoking pipes for about 2 years. I just recently purchased a new one, a Bringham Algonquin which I love. Also have a few others, a Stanwell, a Clifton, a Savinelli and one which I believe is an Old Pal. (markings say op, but it's hardly readable). The Bringham was new as mentioned, also got the Savinelli new last year. The others were used (I believe the term is 'estate pipe', no?) but had been forgotten for some time. I love them all equally. Like children, I suppose. Unfortunately the stem of the Old Pal broke right at the tenon. Are new stems easy to replace? I will see if I can post a picture or 2 of the broken op, but I warn you, it will make you sad!
Anyways, anyone on here in the Toronto, Canada (GTA) area? The shop I usually frequent is called 'Thomas Hinds Tobacconist 'http://www.thomashinds.ca/ and they are pretty knowledgeable, I just haven't brought the pipe to them to look at yet. Also, Canada's oldest tobacconist is near Toronto, in the city of Kitchener, a store called Walpers. http://www.walpertobacco.com/ which I've been meaning to check out as well. Anyone been to either of these stores or order online from them?
Oh, and I'm interested in pipe tobacco/whiskey pairings. Is there already a thread on that?
Thanks, all!

Nice to meet you, Morgoftherings.
I hope you'll enjoy your time here. There are quite a few of us GTA'ers active on the forums. I'm in Ajax. If your mobile, and interested, we have an active pipe-club going in Oshawa. We meet on the last Thursday of each month from 6pm - 9(ish)pm. Toss me a pm if you want details.
Tenon fixes are doable. There are a number of reputable repair shops who will do the work for you. Here is a short list:
Jack Reid, is in Ontario. Our B&M uses him for their repairs. http://www.jackreid.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=56
Mike Myers, is in Michigan. Solid reputation. http://www.walkerpiperepair.com/
There is a long list of guys, but I've had work done by Mike, and have seen work done by Jack, so feel confident in recommending either. Give them an email, with pictures of your Sav, and I'm sure you'll get a response with a quote.
Welcome aboard,
-- Pat

Hey welcome aboard! I know there's at least one bourbon thread floating around and also in one of the early radio shows, Brian had a segment on pairings, but they may have been with primarily Virginias.
Me I prefer a little sweet English with my bourbon. I actually prefer VaPers with a nice crisp beer.

Welcome to the forums.
Are new stems easy to replace?
Well, you can't just buy one from a shop, but you can send it out for repair.
The two most recommended repair shops are Norwoods and Walker's Briar Works. I would recommend Norwoods for a quick, easy and inexpensive replacement and Walker's for more detail oriented work.

Few things in life beat an English type mix, a Dunhill Bruyere and a whiskey neat or with one cube. Scotch or Bourbon.

Preach on, Foggy. While I'd have to sub a Shell for your Bruyere, that mix sounds just about right to me. Especially inserted into one's location of choice.

Welcome to the forum!
As for the pipe stem repair/replacement. I would suggest Floyd Norwood. I've got two pipes that were given to me and right before that they were sent to Floyd for restoration. He did an excellent job and has a good turn-around time.
