Interesting weight change. Also from the photo it appears to have darkened somewhat which is different from ashdigger's pipe.

Hey Ash. I read somewhere that olive oil on a naked briar pipe brings out the grain and darkens it etc. so I tried it on one of my own naked briar pipes and was quite pleased with the results. Might give it a try if you want to get rid of that dead, zombie look.

This experiment was useful to attempt to disprove that a water wash was bad for your pipe. Had it not absorbed much water, it would have disproved that. However, the fact that it did absorb water does not prove that a quick wash will absorb any appreciable amount.
Maybe you could soak in water for an hour and then weigh. That would give you a very general idea of how much water absorbs in a short time.

I don't think that would prove or disprove anything. Try drizzling water through a pipe for 30 seconds, then dry it off and weigh it, allowing for absorption into the cake. Or more to the point, dry it off, wait 30 minutes and then weigh it. Then you would have something close.
All i know is that I've done this many, many, many times and have not experienced any problems. None. Nada. Zero. Zilch. And that's good enough for me.

You are right, of course. I just think that even an hour soak would not absorb much at all, thus disproving.
I also do the water wash and find it useful with no issues. I do it with cobs, which would be much more absorbent probably. I just set them to dry for a few days after.

Vegas Baby!!!
Forest for the trees.
These just show that water is not injurious to briar. Simple.
It's funny how closed minded the water vs no water crowd is.
For fucks sake, we're not talking about vaccines.

Once again, this was not done to prove or disprove anything. It's done purely in the scientific research of too much time with with SFA to do
Of course. Generalized scientific research is also commonly used to draw conclusions and is often critiqued to possibly gather more data points. De gustibus non est disputandum.

I think you may be reading to much into the term " Scientific Research "

The stem fits no problem although slightly loose. I've purchased estates that had worse fitting stems.

Should I let this dry naturally ? I really don't know if it will make a difference :puffpipe:
The water in the jar did smell delicious for what it's worth

Now that we have empirical evidence, there is now a bill being introduced into the House calling for forced water cleanings of all pipes after use. This will all be regulated by required WC965 documents to be filled out and filed with your local ATF office every week and no later than 14 days after smoking. :puffy:
