They do smoke very well but some can be a little heavy.

Hmmm ... Might have to get me one of those. On another forum they have a monkey pipe club. To become a member you have to find and buy, and post, a briar figural carved like a monkey or gorilla.

Interesting that this should come up now.

When I was at Iwan Ries, a guy came in with this amazing looking skull pipe. It looked like it had to have been carved from Meerschaum, but the color was briar. Everyone in the store asked him about it, and he was happy to share. Turns out it is from a guy named Oguz Simsek, and he sells his pipes on the 'Bay. I am saving up some cash to pick up one of these, because they look amazing!. Here is one of them: Angry Skull

The reason almost nobody carves briar figurals is that briar is an ENORMOUS pain in the azz to carve details and finish. Here's a blast from my past- I carved it probably 35 years ago....never sold it 'cause it was kinda ugly...but it actually smoked pretty good...

I was doing some research on Russian/Eastern European carvers and thought this belonged here. The shank spine detail really makes the pipe.

I have one. Call her the "Lady Grabow".AKA the "Nekked LAdy".

She carved on an old Linkmans.

I don't smoke this one very often, she doesn't like to be fondled.

Ed, now that's what I call a figural pipe.

I should have known your talent for making outstanding elegant looking pipes would match your photography. When I win the Lottery, I'm coming to see you.
