I could tell you about my first wife's psychotic break with reality after our second daughter was born, and the crazy divorce that ensued... but it reads as really unbelievable stuff.

All of my other break ups before that were pretty amiable. "not feeling it anymore." "Yeh, me too. Let sleep with other people." "Ok." end of story.

Was this the one who put underpants in neighbours’ gloveboxes? I can’t remember the details well, nor whether they were your undies or hers

Her own in my glove box, so that she could accuse me of having an affair. But, they were obviously hers... that is one of the mild stories from that whole ordeal.

I cannot believe I'm going to tell this story, my wife would kill me. :)
Anyways, back in the 1990s I had a girlfriend. Her and I had a friend in common. The girlfriend and the common friend moved in together. They were both in university at the time.
Most nights the three of us watched movies, went to bars.......you know, the usual girlfriend stuff.....but with a "third wheel" common friend. This went on for a few years. The common girl had a few dates, nothing worked out. My girlfriend and I consoled her and, well, the third wheel thing again.
As my girlfriend finished law school, she was very busy and not around much. Yada, yada, yada......the common girl is now my wife, we have been together for 23 years......married for 5 years. :)
Luckily there were no hard feelings. In fact, the ex girlfriend is our business attorney right now. She is happily married to another common friend of ALL of ours.
Yes, we come from a small community. :)

My breakups have either been mutual and uneventful (several became lifelong close friends) or violent and tragic. Not the sorts of things to comfort, console or entertain. Been with my wife now since 1989, married in ‘93.

Remember that this too shall pass. The sun also rises.

We all just fucked each other. It was the '70's.

Break ups? No fun stories. Married twice, still close friends with both of the exes.

Marry someone who is a your true friend or forget it. When the relationship gets in the way of the friendship it's time to reconfigure that relationship.

Sorry, nothing since HS. She was home from college because we'd been invited to a wedding of a friend that weekend, went out on our date Friday night, had a nice meal, after I paid for it she told me we were breaking up, lol, but to be "fair" to our friend could we still attend the wedding together and I ended up going to the hardware store Saturday morning and buying a gift from the registry so yep, I picked her up and took her, what a sap but you know, still hope. To this day the only thing I remember about the evening, is after whatever time we spent at the reception and on the way to drop her off at her house (she lived 12 miles out of town so pretty sure it was an extremely awkward evening all around) at some point 10cc was on the radio - "The Things We Do For Love" - haha, that's literally all I remember. Both our lives turned out just fine, but that was a good story at the bars when commiserating with friends.

No advice - the vagaries of human interaction are what they are - and if things don't work they don't work - take care of you.

In my younger days I went through the wringer... I've known far more crazy women than sane ones. The stories I could tell... But I won't.

I did own a car once that had to have been part of a nasty break-up.

I bought a black car at auction once that had "suck that bitch" keyed deeply into the side... I couldn't see that from my perspective when I bought the car.

They had tried to cover it up with touch-up paint... It was still very easy to see in most light.

It was easy enough to see that I'm sure it embarrassed some familes and/or old ladies.

I was broke at the time and stuck with the car for about a year before I bought something else.

People said it was ironic that I was in the car business and that happened to me.
