Sunny Cornwall, UK.
I used to live in Suffolk myself some years ago and had a few USAAF drinking pals, usually immaculately turned out in their uniform despite being off duty.

That truck would take about £100 to fill up with petrol. We have a big Ford Explorer at work that I used for a week...It took just over £100 to fill and the tank only lasted a week!

During my first year in the US I lived with this elderly couple, they took me in as part of a cultural exchange program. The gentleman was a former US Army man, and had two sons also military men - at the time one was serving in Germany and the other in Iraq. I was amazed to find out, a fact to which I was formerly oblivious, how many permanent military bases the US has in foreign countries in the aftermath of WW2.

My first trip to UK in the 1980's, I expected the British to be pretty reserved and maybe stuffy. Immediately, even in London, I was pleased to discover how relaxed and convivial they were. We ran into one instance where the class requirements for dressing for the evening meal caused a bit of tension; we were traveling somewhat light. But in general, the citizenry were perfect hosts, kind and attentive.
