My thought: In the wood line pipes must be made by briar!.We can also use sometime wood like strawberry tree very close to briar, lesser quality has the olive tree.Other wood essences could be used where briar isn't available or by some pipemakers to amuse itself or somebody else. There's no reason to don't use briar.Briar is the only wood that not burns easily an last one intere life it also has neutral taste.I whould like some one will say to me the reason to buy for x bucks a general wooden pipe when is available on the market for the same price a plethora of briar pipes. At finally as nobody needs to have more than 7 pipes what's the reason to spend 30 bucks instead of 40 for buy a new pipe?Who needs more than 7 pipes is becoming a collector and collectors don look at small difference in price.Of course everybody is the owner of his destiny and do what he think in full freedom.I only exposed what i mean

Exactly, briar all the way, and the guy selling this Ukrainian pipe appears to be deceptive about it.
Really surprised that he can manage to do that and retain as good a feedback rating as he has.
I'm bidding on a used Savinelli Sherwood Rock Briar 620 and it looks like I'm going to win it.

Its just a guess but his feed back might be padded. I've seen this before, you have a bunch of trained by stuff from you and covetous good feedback. I have a few pear pipes that I really like. A couple of them have taken a few bowels to get passed the bad taste, but they all smoke great now.

I have a pear wood pipe from the Ukraine and it smokes beautifully. Give it another try after letting it rest a day and perhaps switching to a different tobacco. Unless you tasted "something funny" while smoking the pipe - I doubt that it's the pipe's fault. A toxity or noxious element within the pipe would be noticeable in the taste and in the nose of the smoke.

sherlock and clanobucklin -
Yeah you can find reviews that seem to be serenading a potential buyer all over the place, particularly on Amazon.com I've noticed.
I'm starting to develop a respect for pearwood. I'm on my third fill of the above pictured pipe and now I'm pretty sure I'm tasting nothing but the tobacco. I figure after 10 fills any trace of anything I had from the first fill will be gone.

I think olive wood pipes are beautiful and I've heard they aren't bad smokers. But of course, briar is always briar.
