I like to dedicate pipes to a blend TYPE rather than a single blend specifically.
I start all new pipes with a straight Virginia, typically C&D Yorktown. Once I get a modest cake started. I tinker a bit. I try that pipe with a burley forward blend, then maybe a Latakia blend, and I try to pay attention to the way a pipe and blend type pair. If I find a pipe seems to pair well with a particular blend type, then it becomes dedicated. I can't say that I have the most discerning palate tbh, but I do seem to notice a difference in flavor by dedicating in this way. And I enjoy the experimentation, too.
As my smoking preferences lean heavily on Virginias, Burleys and occasional/seasonal Latakias, it doesn't require a lot of pipes for me to dedicate in this way. And I rarely reach for aromatics, but I do keep a briar and a few cobs for aros in case I ever feel the need to scratch that itch.
