I'm pretty new, so take my reviews with a grain of salt, but I think Captain Black is fine and Prince Albert is actually a pretty good basic tobacco. I've got a pouch of SWR Aromatic and a can of Walnut on the way in my next order.

The Interwebs
Cortez, et al, I believe it is now required as part of the tobacco legislation that tobacco companies post anti-smoking verbiage on their websites, company prospectuses, and everything they produce.

From STG:

Over the past approximately 60 years, media and campaigns have presented us over and over again with information about the harmful effects of smoking; effects which have been proven by scientific research and statistics.

Scandinavian Tobacco Group shares the view that tobacco smoking is associated with risks of a number of diseases, and all our tobacco products carry warnings about the risks of smoking.

However, not everybody gets ill by smoking. Some do, others don’t. Science has not yet given us a definite answer as to why this is so. But the risk increases the more you smoke and the more years you smoke. Smokers of mild tobacco products also expose themselves to a risk.

Everyone has to take the risk seriously, balance the pleasure of smoking against the risk and then make a personal choice whether to smoke or not.

We know that many people find it difficult to quit smoking. Some may use the expression that they become addicted to smoking. We believe that everyone can quit smoking.

Millions of people all over the world quit every year, merely because they decide to do so and add willpower to their decision. However, there is hardly any doubt that smoking is habitual.

Smoking involves a health risk and is habitual. Therefore, smoking is a choice that should be left to adults only. In our opinion nobody under the age of 18 should smoke.

Theirs is the most neutral of the ones I've found, but all of the companies--Altadis, RJR, Lorillard, you name it, they have health warnings. So I think it's more of a case of don't blame the messenger, just ignore the message.

Don't blame John Middleton Co., it's a legal requirement brought to us by the Nannies. I could never boycott them, I like my Prince Albert and Carter Hall too much.

I don't believe that is a legal requirement at all. Otherwise, every other pipe and tobacco company website in the US would have that same page. I think this is just a way for him to ensure that people don't try to sue him for selling tobacco products and claiming he caused their illnesses. IMO, it's a nanny cop-out all around and a little more than CYA (cover your ass) step in the wrong direction.

Middleton products make up most of my "cellar",and will continue to as long as I smoke a pipe-and I don't have any intention of quitting any to soon.

Warning labels are big fun. I tear them out/off whenever I can and use them for things. Few weekends ago I covered a scratched-up old 'tobacco barrel' with several dozen of them. A bit of paste and some lacquer... Made a really smart-assed little cellar piece - and I ended-up selling it to a buddy who thought it was a riot.
Back toward topicsville; Captain Black was what I started with. I was dead gone over cavendish back then. It's a solid choice - as is PA - nothing wrong with either, if you like them. I must admit that I don't smoke either very often. There again, I rarely smoke anything devoid of perique anymore, so don't mind me.
