worst part is I've always been like that. It's a matter of too much. It's rare for my mind not to be thinking about four or five things and delving into the mysteries of life and how much I like sushi and that cute blonde even though I really like brunettes and why don't people clean up after their dogs and is it wrong to find them and cover their home in their dogs poo poo and man I'am glad I don't have to do jury duty. Oh shit I have a three day weekend it's my birthday. Oh great point that makes me think of something funny. Hence why I find pipes so great kind of gets me on track.
Maybe when the nurse comes around, ask for an extra dose of Morphine???? ;):)

I feel that way off and on too. I think we all do at some point in our daily life.
I have always said that the funniest people are those that have no idea they are funny.

I remember that the main character in one of the story books I read as a kid was at one point described as having a "Multiple One-Track Mind." The only other thing I'm sure I remember about that book is that this back-country lad rebuilt a bicycle but had to use a set of deer antlers for the handlebars.

I had a friend who was an engineer and literal and focused, sometimes to the point of inadvertent humor. One time he was invited to give a short panel talk on aging; I think with the intent that the panelists would philosophize and offer a dash of inspiration. He made his little talk on signing up for social security and health benefits, useful but maybe off the track. I sailed with him on a nice thirty footer and did a paddling expedition down the Black River (N.C.) and he had a wonderfully quick perception of everything that happened; that's when you want an engineer aboard. That's when being a little flat-footed and literal is perfect.

it's funny how many scenes from books and movies I remember with zero context.

I have found by accident the best way to get morphine is when they ask where you are on the pain scale say 7.

seriously though last time I went to the emergency room every professional was like really you don't need drugs? How do you not need drugs. The secret is the pain doesn't really fully hit and then on the ride home you go shit they where right.
