I remember a box pass where preferred members could participate in a box pass.

What’s that? The newbies are asking.

Well, someone starts a list of members that enjoy different tobaccos and pipes and pipe stuff. The box is started with the first member listed, they put some tobacco, pipes, tampers, or whatever. The next receives it takes from the box what he wants, it was only fare that if you took from the box that you would replace and add a little. Then the box gets passed to the next member on the list and so on.

All you had to do was cover the postage and add to the box equal to what you took and a little more. At one point the box was rather large and was like opening someone’s cellar.

My question is this...does it still exist and if not who would be interested in doing one?

I like the idea, but would be afraid to be on the list as finances are often tight, which theoretically could delay my contribution and resending.

Well members would be stable on the forum and you would have to apply. If for some reason you don’t think you can do it once entered. Step out fee would be 50 g of the tobacco of your liking to the senior member of the pass...j/k.

Hey I get it finances may become an issue. If that happens inform the member in charge of it and you will be skipped in the rotation, don’t wait till you have the box in hand and then bail.

I would need a partner if I were to head it up. Also we would lay out a plan for shipping so it’s not bouncing from coast to coast. Shorter distance = cheaper rates.

Also if you find your wife scheduled a vacation you can’t get out of and can’t be there for the box then you can request it be passed to the next in line. Hey your loss if you can’t control your better half. Lol.

Before I commit to anything I would like one of the previous box pass members to PM me especially if they helped run it. Got some questions I need to bounce off them.

Ok so I found some old box pass posts. Looks like the last attempt was in 2016 and it fell apart. It looks like the box is still out there. Also I found rules and info for the adventure but the sites won’t open up. May need help from a mod.

On that note, how do you define stable on the forum? For instance, I've been around since August. However, I tend to lurk a lot more than post. I post off and on when I feel like I have something to contribute, but most of my "presence" is reading and learning.

The box pass is a funny thing. It gets the most views. It gets the most posts and all involved usually comment weekly if not daily. I was a part of one in 2012 in 6 months time there was 20+ guys involved and over 80 posts. Everyone wants the box but they all have to be patient. The largest I saw was over 14lbs of sample baggies, pipes, tampers, and much more. There is also a journal that has the master list and is updated with all the samples in the box. I think at one point there was over 75 different tobaccos in the box.

I will be hashing out and fine tuning the old rules with a legend of the box pass. When it’s ready I will start a new post to get the ball rolling. This posting is pretty much to get the word out that it’s coming and to get sort of a head count of who wants to participate.

I'd be in for thehe new box pass. I remember it from years ago but was never on the list. Adding something like a journal to the box could be fun. We could all read what other members write down, not just about the tobacco, but about life and all that jazz. Who knows we could all learn a thing or two.
